Ad hoc networking is a term to define the special and instant networks that is set up and tore down with need and availability basis. This is a latin term that means “for this”. Today’s commercial fixed, mobile and satellite networks are always placed side to this in taxonomy to define the entire networking. Former is owned by the participants and limited and short ranged, latter on the other hand relies on a heavy central networking architecture hence broad, popular and expensive. Ad hoc networking is lately being utilized as a few hop mesh networking in homes, as backhaul and vehicular to vehicular communication for limited distance communication. On the contrary, central infrastructure provides quality and large distance coverage but fragile if catastrophe level is high. This can either be disaster, war or governing regime choices. Hence, communication and information right of people is not eternaltoday and not “for all” (“omnibus” in latin) since central infrastructure is costly and market dynamics prevent it to reach broader geographies due to the affordability of subscribers. Hence, it is concentrated around population that can afford the fixed or mobile network to pay for the cost[1], driven by scarcity of spectrum (~$ billions), useful lives of assets (max 40 UEL) and age of networks (~5.63 years per generation). This still lefts half of the earth population (3.5 billion people) away from information and communication capacity.  To overcome this, high R&D investments are being made to space by big corporates such as SpaceX, Virgin Galaxy, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Facebook either utilizing satellites or balloons or drones as HAPS as solutions. This if accomplished will only today to reach next billion population and necessary geographical coverage and still carry abovementioned cost and vulnerabilities. Hence, ultimate goal should be to provide an omnibusnetworking that needs to be eternalto provide information and communication right in every circumstance and across geographies without vulnerabilities.

Our solution lies in the word “omni-bus” that means “carriage for everyone”.

Utilizing vehicles of transportation as an information relay we think can let at least basic Internet widely available; why? First, transportation has reached almost 100% penetration in world’s geography. Almost, there is no population that cannot be reached by transportation or is not in periodic transportation. Also, transportation arteries resemble today’s Internet as junctions as switches, roads as routers, paid highways as MPLS routers, etc.  Second, as mobile device penetration increases, ability to provide smart phones to rural areas also increasing due to second hand cycle in diminishing costs. We leverage these two dynamics to solve this chaotic routing problem with collective learning algorithms and available information from any device. We’ll investigate and use the patterns in the nature including human biology especially to antibodies mobile arteries towards an ignited destination.

Our motivation is to connect all rural people with very minimum infrastructure cost but with sacrifice in quality and readiness of the communication.  This novel routing method although is aimed for rural communication in normal days is also the communication tool in abnormal days, in catastrophes in which the traditional communication infrastructure can be halted.

Further, eternal communication infrastructure can be possible as this novel method becomes available in all devices.  This means even there is a total purposeful or unintentional failure of the traditional fixed, mobile and satellite communication infrastructure, this novel method can continue the ground functionality of today’s Internet; connecting people to reach information.

Communication and transportation go together like a horse and carriage.
Till last century, transportation was the locomotive of communication.
Today,  communication leads the way to define smart transportation.
Tomorrow,  Ambeent offers a vision for an eternal digital information exchange over transportation.
